Reclaimed, FSC, and Urban Harvest Hardwoods

Do we use wood? Of course, but any wood we use must meet the established standards for responsible forest management. This certified wood is smart: it can't balance your checkbook but will provide you with a nice surface to do it yourself.

OSMO Hardwax Oil

Not to be confused with traditional oil finishes, OSMO Hardwax Oil is an engineered finish made with plant oils and waxes. This remarkable finish offers excellent durability and renewability with a unique lustrous finish. It will never crack, blister or flake off. Instead of forming a plastic film, like polyurethane does, OSMO Hardwax Oil has open pores that "breathe." This allows any moisture that does get through to get back out again without pushing off the finish.

Environmental benefits include:

  1. Hardwax Oil is made mostly from readily renewable, natural ingredients.
  2. Hardwax Oil is extremely durable—keeps existing flooring in good shape for decades.
  3. When dry, Hardwax Oil meets European safety standards for use on children’s furniture and toys and resistance to perspiration and saliva.
  4. Hardwax Oil contains no biocides or preservatives, only aliphatic low-odor mineral spirits that meet the German standard for purity.

Upholstery

We've searched high and low for beautiful, safe and sustainably manufactured fabric and we love what we found.  We have many great choices from our suppliers, with more always on the way.  Contact us to discuss fabrics and upholstery.

We work with many sustainable fabric providers, including:

Mayer_fabrics_2 Mayer Fabrics began developing environmentally responsible fabrics under the Eco System® brand in 2001 with the introduction of the Waste Not Collection. Since then, Eco System has been expanded to include a wide range of both panel and upholstery fabrics that are woven with recycled, recyclable or compostable fibers. Mayer's new Ecosphere line (featured), offers small to large-scale designs in an extensive palette of sustainable fabrics constructed from Terratex and antimony-free Eco Intelligent Polyester.

Finishes

Since we have to apply them and you have to live with the consequences of what we use, it's all nontoxic for us. We lean toward the traditional natural oils like linseed and tung. Our glues are nontoxic and we don't do formaldehyde.
